Brown University Communications Manager in Providence, Rhode Island

Job Description:

This position manages communication and outreach for the Department of Cognitive, Linguistic and Psychological Sciences (CLPS), including management of web, social media and print materials, to promote the department’s mission, initiatives and events. The manager is responsible for the development and implementation of external and internal communications in support of the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs, research program, alumni relations, public relations, and Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) initiatives through: print publications, web, email, and social media communications; and departmental events and workshops. The position supervises an Administrative Coordinator with responsibility for department events logistics, including scheduling, space, catering, technology services, travel and hotel arrangements, invitations and advertising; and a Student Affairs Coordinator with responsibility for undergraduate and graduate student appointments and communications. This position also works with faculty and student leaders to manage communications related to academic programming.


  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a Communications related field of study, and 3 - 5 years of related experience

  • ·Demonstrated strong planning, organizational and time management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multple tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines.

  • ·Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Proficiency with social media usage

  • ·Supervisory experience preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people with tact and diplomacy.
