This position will be responsible for supporting new and existing Hadoop cluster and NoSQL database systems instances and guide best practices in database administration, and introduce innovation with automation.

This is a critical position for HPE with primary responsibility for integration of legacy data platforms to facilitate and accelerate data movement to a modern data architecture. Will be responsible for managing Hadoop platform and all services, support business units in leveraging this centralized data. Position will work with Hadoop vendors on support, upgrades, and roadmap for HPE and perform cluster administration tasks.

Responsibilities also include bringing solid skills of NoSQL database technology. Work with development teams designing database architecture and operations to support critical applications through their development and deployment. Your priority is ensuring the platforms remain stable, reliable, and available.

This position will also be responsible for the support of Non Stop environment (HP SQL/MX) and the planning of migrating Oracle databases to the newly built infrastructure.


  • Responsible for data access programming, physical database design, and implementation of big data platform including data modeling, designing, building, and managing database layout and structure

  • Participant in the support of a production Hadoop platform

  • Maintain database service levels and availability goals, database monitoring and performance tuning, database backup and recovery, and resolving production database incidents

  • Collaborate in evolving overall development and technology strategies and establish database design and administration standards and best practices around performance tuning and query optimization improvements

  • Manage data governance and security

  • Work with IT security teams to track access, audit, and approvals for Big Data platform

  • Plan best practices and standards for data access, audit tracking, segmentation of data through security standards (Kerberos, LDAP, authentication and authorization)

  • Configure, install, manage, tune, and support multiple NoSQL instances

  • Perform database maintenance, user assistance, troubleshooting and optimization. Key participant in capacity planning and growth projections

  • Perform application migrations from development to production including performance and functional testing.

  • Define and implement backup and archival strategies per data retention requirements

  • Automate routine tasks with scripts

  • Work with cross functional teams planning, modeling, and implementing solutions utilizing NoSQL technologies

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.

  • Minimum 15 years IT experience required

  • Coding skills with at least one of following: C#, Python, PHP, Perl, or Java

  • Thorough understanding of database technologies ranging from RDBMS databases to NoSQL databases (MongoDB, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, etc.)

  • Experience working with various IT development techniques like Agile and Scrum

  • Knowledge of various operating systems such as Linux and Windows for database hosting required

  • At least 2 years of experience leading Hadoop big data and NoSQL technical teams

  • Experience with data ingestion tools like Sqoop, Storm, and Kafka

  • Experience building schemas and queries with Hive

  • In-depth understanding of NoSQL High Availability strategies - replica sets, sharding, and failover techniques

  • Experience working with large multi-terabyte data sets

  • Solid knowledge of NoSQL database concepts

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Communicate/work effectively in a team environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Previous experience with MariaDB is a plus
