Position:Hospital Compliance Coordinator

Location:Hedrick Building, Chapel Hill

Hours:Full-time, Monday-Friday

This position may involve support of various hospitals and health care systems within the UNC Health Care System, but will be employed by Rex Hospital, Inc. (this includes, but is not limited to, for purposes of payroll, health benefits, retirement options, and applicable policies).

The Hospital Compliance Coordinator is responsible for assisting the HCS Director Hospital Compliance (Director) with day-to-day hospital compliance

activities; duties shall also include select privacy activities. The position contributes to planning, developing, and implementing compliance related

functions at select network entities and across UNC Health Care.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: investigating compliance/privacy concerns, assisting with compliance/privacy related education, facilitating follow through of compliance/privacy audit findings, coordinating compliance/privacy related meetings, assessing, reporting, and mitigating facility risk for non-compliance with applicable regulations, and

collaborating with on-site network entity leaders.

Description of Job Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate on-site network entity compliance and privacy activities: receive, investigate, and document compliance and privacy inquiries and management requests regarding regulatory matters; assist with completion of compliance and privacy education including new/revised policy dissemination; work with network entity management to ensure implementation of action plans from audit related findings; facilitate staff and leadership conflict of interest and other compliance required disclosures; coordinate meetings and maintain documents and reports for hospital compliance and privacy meetings; serve as liaison between network entity leadership and HCS Hospital Compliance.

  2. Collaborate with network entity management and HCS shared services: works collaboratively with other hospital functions regarding potential compliance risks, issues or concerns including, but not limited to, Patient Financial Services, Health Information Management, Quality and Risk, as well as Information Technology. Works closely with Director and HCS Associate Director Hospital Compliance on appropriate matters and collaborates across UNCHCS to communicate and implement work products.

  3. Maintains appropriate professional knowledge and ensures personal development: maintains or acquires certifications and/or memberships, as required, necessary to stay current on matters of compliance and health care related regulations in order to provide professional services in an effective and efficient process.

  4. Communicates professionally at all times: communicates (written and verbal) in a professional, clear, and precise manner with all levels of UNCHCS staff.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

Associate’s degree in an appropriate discipline; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

Not required; Health care or compliance certification preferred, i.e. – CHC, RHIA/RHIT, etc.

Professional Experience Requirements:

Three - five years in appropriate health care related field; one - two years in compliance or privacy preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

Working knowledge of health care regulations; Computer skills including Outlook, Word, Excel.
