Providing health care services to nearly 250,000 residents of eastern Contra Costa County, Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch remains the community's only not-for-profit acute care hospital. Its comprehensive services include 24-hour emergency care, surgery, family centers, obstetrics, pediatrics, acute rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, occupational health, physical therapy, intensive care and coronary care. Cardiac catheterization, sports rehabilitation and home health services are also among the medical center's areas of specialized care.Provides technical expertise in the areas of cardiac ultrasound.

The Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technician functions under guidance from the Manager of Cardio-Pulmonary Services and Neurology Physicians to safely operate multiple pieces of sophisticated medical equipment to record cortical, peripheral nerve, auditory nerve and visual pathway neurophysiological information. This position is responsible for reporting any significant patient abnormalities in the diagnostic data to the appropriate physician. The technician performs basic and complex electrophysiologic recording in accordance with physician's orders and historical information. This position functions only as a clinical position and does not do testing in the operation room. The Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technician provides Electroneurodiagnostic testing to patients of all ages, which assist in the diagnosis of suspected neurological disorders.

Qualifications

All positions are open to internal candidates only for the first 7 days.

Education/Licensure:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Preceptored Training with competency validation in a Neurodiagnostic educational program or an AA degree in Allied Health or Natural Sciences is preferred.

Experience:

  1. Must have experience performing EEG procedures in an acute care setting on adult patients.

Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of human anatomy with emphasis on neuroanatomy, physiology, physics and medical electronics is essential in providing the basis for monitoring electroencephlamograms (EEG's) and recognizing pathology related to the neurological data.

  2. Must have the ability to distinguish abnormalities on the recordings.

  3. Must have a complete understanding of recording sites and recording montages to help localize various abnormalities.

  4. Understanding of basic related pharmacology, especially anti-epileptic and anesthetic medications, is essential, as is in-depth understanding of medical terminology.

Special Skills/Equipment:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to operate digital electroencephalographic and evoked potential equipment.

  2. Must be able to test patients of all ages, including pediatric patients.

  3. Must be very knowledgeable in use of analog and digital equipment in the Neurodiagnostic Laboratory.

  4. Good understanding of computers is essential for use of digital monitoring equipment and troubleshooting computer malfunction.

  5. CPR certified is required.
