Human Resources Consultant


Teradata is seeking a Human Resources Consultant to join our San Diego and Seattle locations. The HR Consultant will report to the Sr. Director Human Resources/Business Partner and is responsible for helping implement and deliver Human Resources strategies, policies and programs for teams of highly skilled and innovative engineers. This person will work closely with our management teams to sustain our high performance and entrepreneurial culture.

This HR Consultant will provide generalist support in the areas of Compensation, Engagement, Talent Management, Performance Management, HR Reporting and Talent Acquisition. This position will also work with other HR team members including Staffing, Performance Management, and Immigration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Sr. Director Human Resources/Business Partner to deploy HR practices, programs, processes, and services that drive HR and business performance.

  • Provide day to day delivery of HR programs that align HR solutions to business priorities.

  • Assist with deployment of regulatory compliance/conformance and diversity initiatives within the organization/geographic location.

  • Provide consultation and coaching to managers and employees on employee relation matters.

  • Support deployment of global HR processes and programs including; Performance Management, Pay Administration and implementation, Staffing, Career Development, Engagement, and Organization Design.

  • Provide analytical support in the delivery of HR reporting requirements and provide a measurement of success in everything we do.

  • Anticipate and apply critical thinking to proactively reach a solution to help resolve business challenges.

  • Consult with managers and staffing consultants on acquiring the right talent, including assessing the skill gaps and building the staffing strategy to acquire the future talent.

  • Partner with Sr. Director Human Resources/Business Partner and managers on talent development and succession plans and help implement consistent practices throughout the organization.

  • Maintain professional network in respective markets to stay abreast of trend changes in labor competition and availability of talent.

  • Work directly with candidates, employees, managers, immigration team, and outside immigration counsel in preparing appropriate immigration cases (e.g. F-1, H1B, O, PERM, etc.).

  • Consult with managers on offer packages and manage on-boarding for new employees.

  • Promote and maintain the organization’s visibility in the industry.

  • Acts as a champion of change in the organization, sponsoring change initiatives in support of organizational evolution.

  • Interfaces with Compensation/Benefits/Performance Management practices on activities such as: development of supporting global processes and programs, communication of compensation, benefits & performance management philosophy and programs, development of job evaluations & descriptions, and assists managers on compensation changes.

  • Knows and deploys regulatory compliance/ conformance and diversity initiatives within the organization/geographic.

  • Other duties may include office site management.

Work Environment

  • This is an office-based position located in San Diego CA or Seattle WA. Travel to other site locations where applicable may be required. Up to 5% travel required.

  • This position frequently requires extended hours and after-hours follow up given the entrepreneurial nature of the team.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in HR Management, Industrial Relations or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Human Resource function (with a minimum of 3 years’ experience as an HR Generalist).

  • Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Understands statutory requirements and local labor laws.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a technology company preferred.

  • Project management experience strongly desired.
