The Summer Program Assistant shall provide general supervision to students in a safe and nurturing educational setting while promoting the student's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Summer Program Assistants shall encourage parent involvement in all aspects of the learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

*Help students learn through small or individual group sessions by age and content material.

*Create fun innovative and engaging ways to involve students in the program.

*Responsible for supervision of enrolled program student.

*Keep regular and accurate records of program activities including attendance, emergency contact information, and child health.

*Communicate with parents in a friendly and effective way, addressing concerns in a timely manner, giving positive feedback and providing regular updates on their child's participation in the Summer Program activities.

*Maintain confidentiality regarding information about student, families, and self.

*Be a positive role model and listener.

*Comply with all State, Tribal and Federal regulations.

*Reporting any suspected Child Abuse and Neglect in accordance with State, Tribal and Federal laws.

*Ensure that the appearance, cleanliness and safety of the Summer Program meeting space is appropriately maintained.

*Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

*Must be a secondary student currently enrolled in an academic program, have a GED or High School diploma.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

*Knowledge of culturally diverse populations and their needs.

*Keyboarding skills, computer literacy and familiarity with various applications such a database, word processing, email and internet.

*Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with families.

*Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification and Food Handler's Card

*Ability to respond appropriately (both mentally and physically) to an emergency or a crisis

*Daily kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to attend the children's needs.

*Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.

*Respectful and knowledgeable of Tribal culture, customs, beliefs, values, social systems, and structure of Indian families.

*Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

*Must be flexible and adaptable.

*Must bring a sense of fun and enjoyment to their work.

*Proficiency with basic information technology.

*Willing to respond to youth needs in a realistic and nonjudgmental way.

*Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with families.

Certifications:

*CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 2 weeks of employment.

Conditions of Employment:

The Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma operates a drug-free workplace.

*Must submit to and pass applicable drug test.

*Must pass background investigations for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.

*Must possess and maintain a valid driver license with no serious violations.
