Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO) Located in Ouzinkie, Alaska Full-time / eligible for full fringe benefits Summary Provide all aspects of public safety in remote communities, including search & rescue, fire protection, community safety training, emergency medical assistance, law enforcement, and crime prevention; may perform other duties related to maintaining public services and participating in community activities, by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Enforce State and Federal laws and Municipal ordinances; assist other State and Federal agencies, as appropriate. Responsible for coordination of fire protection, fire prevention and organizing volunteers. Responsible to assist with coordination of search and rescue missions by acting as the village-based communication link with the Alaska State Troopers and Coast Guard, as necessary. Provide public safety in coordination with Tsunami alerts and other disasters. Provide basic First Aid assistance when other licensed medical professional care is not immediately available, assist Community Health Aide/Representative, as necessary. Performs routine patrols to identify and respond to public safety concerns. Coordinates community service work of community members as directed by local Court system, track, monitor and provide routine reports on activities of individuals subject to probation and parole. At the discretion of the APO, the VPSO obtains urine samples from offenders using the UA test cups provided by the State of Alaska, Dept. of Corrections and will record and immediately report results to the APO. Provides to the APO updated photos of Sex Offenders on an annual basis, or if there is a physical change in the offender s appearance. Maintains regular contact with AST Oversight and the KANA VPSO Coordinator at least weekly, or more frequently as necessary.
