Animal Technician- Laboratory Assistant I - Night Shift- Glen Burnie, MD 21061

Requirement: 831- Rate: $15.00/hour

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs variety of laboratory tasks related to animal care, animal facility management, antibody/antigen production and other areas in support of new product development and/or product support of existing products.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Animal Care

Provides daily care of research animals (mice). Cleans cages, equipment and facility. Monitors wellbeing of animals. Ensures all documents are filled out according to Standard Operating Procedures and reflect current manufacturing processes and label claims. Tracks supplies and notifies supervisor of needed orders.

Animal Facility Management

Supervises daily activities of junior staff within the animal facility. Trains new employees for proper animal handling techniques; provides coaching and guidance to Animal Technician staff as needed. Responsible for coordinating with area manager on operational and technical duties. Manages and maintains breeding colony for use in ascites production. Reviews all documents completed by junior level staff to ensure that they are filled out according to Standard Operating Procedures and reflect current manufacturing processes and label claims. Coordinates biohazard waste disposal as needed. Serves as a point of contact for animal facility inspections (i.e., regulatory agencies). Orders supplies and serves as point of contact for partnerships/external vendors as needed. Antibody/Antigen Production. Responsible for both research- and large-scale antibody/ antigen production. Schedule and perform cell line expansion in support of antibody/antigen production to meet both R&D and production needs. Prepares working and production cell stocks as needed; tests cell stocks (sterility, antibody levels, viral titer) to ensure acceptability for use; assists with 9CFR testing of cell stocks (bacterial and fungal testing, sample prep for mycoplasma and karyology testing, isotyping, IFA, slide preparation and staining). May assist with scheduling of antibody/antigen production to meet OPS and R&D needs. Collects data; track and analyze data as needed; may assist with creation of reports. Maintains communication between R&D projects and OPS production
