Job Summary **This is a 2-year, limited term position funded from external sources. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.**
The individual in this position will provide assistance to researchers with projects related to disease management in carinata, corn, cotton, peanut, and grain sorghum. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: assist with preparation of experiment outlines and other research project materials; handling, counting, and storage of seed and other research materials, assist with the installation, execution, sampling, and harvesting of field research trials; preparation and distribution of pathogen inoculum as well as maintenance of culture collection; assist with equipment, materials, and labor needs; collect, record, process and analyze data from field research projects; assist with the preparation of research reports for publications, literature reviews, and/or presentations at conferences; and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Designation as a Research Assistant requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Plant Pathology or closely related field; six (6) years of experience in research practices and protocols to include field/lab experience with plant disease and nematode damage assessment; and a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection. Employer will consider advance degrees in lieu of some experience. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated public speaking ability, demonstrated technical excellence, and ability to work independently are also required.
Candidate must be a licensed driver with a personal vehicle as extensive in-state travel, which will include overnight stays, is required. Travel expenses will be reimbursed according to Auburn University guidelines. Candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the U.S. by the start date and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
